Re: [RC] re: age per miles - ft bragg nc area - Someone Somewhere

you know, it's a good suggestion. however, THIS horse, i love almost more than oxygen. he was a rescue, and i got him prolly 400 lbs underweight. he has obviously been abused in some way at some point in his life. he is loving, and sweet, and we are so-so-so bonded.
now, when we go out to dride, he is a dream, he is the horse every little girl dreams of having. when we turn around to come home, he tries to bolt. when i pull him up, he stops on a dime, then stands there in place, and bucks like i need to win a belt buckle lol knock on wood, he has yet to toss me, i got velcro legs, not that im that great a rider, i just REFUSE to take "the ride and fly special" he is getting better about it, and if i bust his but here on the farm, before, and after the ride, i find he isnt in such a hurry to come home.
that being said, i cannot let this horse go, we both healed together, physically and emotionally, and most of my confidence working with the horses come from bonding with him, and he will always have a place here on my farm, and in my heart :)

Let me suggest that you find a safer horse.  I was riding a horse that was occasionally a sudden and violent spooker.  After he dumped me twice in 3+ years, I decided to find a safer horse.  I have one now and he does not appear to back down to anything, including a motorcycle coming at him.  He stops on the slightest command and is rate-able in competition.
I loved the horse I gave up, but my life is a lot safer with my current one.  I love him for being so safe and good to me.

.
i will ocasionally take my gelding out for a ride alone, but i don't hit the trails, i ride up my road, where i know if i fell off, someone would come along to help me eventually. still, it's not a garauntee, what if my horse spooked and ran into the woods? he is relatively well behaved, (well okie, he's barn sour, and bucks on the way home on a bad day, we're working on it lol) but he is still a 1,000 pound animal, and truth be told, if he has his mind set on something, 145 lb me is NOT stopping him.
