RE: [RC] [RC] Bandos/Freeform - Karen Standefer

I think there are pros and cons to both the saddles.  Yes, I feel like the Freeform spreads the weight better.  But, if you have problems with it crushing the withers, then it’s a mute point and the Bandos will probably solve that problem.

For short legged people riding horses that are too big (mine is 15.1hh and 1000 pounds and very round backed) the Bandos and similar saddles wreak havoc on my hips and knees.  The Freeform gives just enough height off my horse’s back to allow my hips and legs to hang at a better angle so it’s not splitting me down the middle.

There is just so much that comes to play from all sides that I don’t think you can say one saddle is better than the other.  It depends on the horse’s conformation, way of going, rider conformation, way of riding, pad under the saddle and probably a hundred other factors.  I do think the treeless saddles give a great variety of ways to solve problems.  So, I think there is a definitely place for them.  But, they’re not for every horse/rider team and none of them work on every horse/rider.

Just my thoughts,

Karen

P.S.  I haven’t tried the Bandos.  I have seen it at the shop.  I have personal experience with other non-structured treeless saddles.  I’ve used treeless saddles exclusively since 2001 and have used the Freeform since late 2004.

So do you feel like the Freeform it would spread the weight of the stirrup hanger better?
