Re: [RC] LD brakes on! - Barbara McCrary

This sounds like a pretty sharp idea. More checkpoints with PR gates would definitely make inexperienced riders think, and as you say, learn how to read their horses. I like it! It wouldn't take too much effort to throw in and extra checkpoint or two on a 25-35 mile ride.

I have said this before.
It is so easy to keep tight reins on the LD event for newcomers and a dimension of strategy for people who do this event.
Simply put three or more vet checks or "gates" for that event.
Yeah, I know you will say that the ride managers can't do all that with vets.... but you can still just use PR gates that are staffed with volunteers OR even by the riders themselves. New concept. Hey, the Duck has some self service turn around marshals at his events.
This would not only slow down their event but would also force them to KNOW how to take their own pulses, etc.
I do not suggest a new rule (I hate them..) but maybe an encouragement and support for RM's that do that....
AERC could make a suggestion statement in its tools for Ride Managers.
