RE: [RC] [RC] legs at multi-days, etc. - Ranelle Rubin

Jonni,

I follow the lessons taught to me by my "mentors"..Ann and Hal Hall. I ice, walk, ice, (cold water hosing if I am home), walk, then finally wrap with either an Arnica based (Sore No More), or clay.

Personally, the tissue damage that can be done by allowing inflammation to occur is not worth it to me.

opinion, the mark of a lazy groom. He believed in ice, he also used clay on
some horses, but he always told me that gentle exercise at regular intervals
and to have the legs uncovered so you could assess them was vital. I have
always followed that advice and it has worked for me with all of my
horses.<<<

I am pretty much of that school too Kerry. If I just automatically wrapped,
then I would not know if I was having issues, as I might not see where heat
and fill turned up. And the wraps could hide from me a problem that was
forming. I think from starting distance riding many years ago in CTR's
first, where we can not wrap, taught me I did not "need" them. I learned the
use of cold water on the legs, and getting my butt up from my camper to go
WALK my horse to help keep those legs stretched, and the circulation going,
and also observe if anything is forming I should be aware of on his legs.
One wrapped, they are out of sight, and usually out of mind..........
