[RC] starting horses late - k s swigart

In my experience, the older they are, the easier they are to start.

That said, I have never started one that was older than 10 and there is
not much difference between 7 and 10.

7 is when horses start to get good, whether they have been started
already or not. If you wait until the horse is at least 7 to start it,
then you can skip over the early years before they got good.

If you have gotten somebody else to pour all those year's worth of feed
into the horse instead of doing it yourself, so much the better.

As far as I am concerned, 7 years old and unstarted is ideal. You can
just put the horse to work.
