[RC] Back to back rides - am I doing enough? - sherman

Susan, Initially (for about a year) we rode 3 times a week, 10-18 mile
rides. Our horses were all mature, trail horses to start with. About
once a month we do a 25-30 mile ride. We never did a back to back 30
before attempting a 50, but we do monthly 25-30 mile rides. After we
started doing 50s we cut back to riding twice a week and the horses were
fine at their first back to back 50. Someone on ridecamp said "never
underestimate the power of rest" so we don't often do back to back
conditioning rides, only occasionally. IMO, longer rides every other day
are best. And, make sure your horse gets enough rest.

And you will be ready when you do it, still might be a little sore, but
that's okay, most of us were and some of us still are sore after a 50.

Good luck,
Kathy

I figured if I could do back to back 30's, then she
would be ready for a 50. The question is: Will I
be???
