[RC] [European Endurance Championship] BHR: Royal Team gear up forPortugal challenge - Ridecamp

BAHRAIN'S Royal Endurance Team arrived yesterday in Portugal to prepare for the FEI European Endurance Championship Open scheduled for Saturday in Lisbon.

The team, captained by Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, will begin training today prior to the upcoming event which will be over 160 kms.

Other team members include Shaikh Daij bin Salman Al Khalifa, Yousif Taher, Ghazi Al Dossary, Raed Mahmood and Mohammed Abdulaziz.

Team manager Dr Khalid Hassan said Shaikh Nasser was keen to select new and talented riders to represent the team in this prestigious competition.

Hassan confirmed that having a group of young riders taking part in such a long-distance race will not affect their performance as they have a good experience in riding under tough circumstances.

Hassan added the team was proud to have Shaikh Nasser as their leader for the championship which gives them more confidence and boosts their morale.

The team manager said the team will be further boosted by the return of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa who is presently attending to academic commitments.

After coming second overall in last month's Compiegne Endurance Horseride Race held in France, the Bahrainis have big hopes for the coming event.

The team have been preparing for the European Open since May with a local training camp, which was followed by a two-week camp in the UK and France where they also took part in a number of national championships.

The team is being sponsored by Kuwait Finance House and Mena Telecom.
