[RC] ethics - Spottedracer

It is easier to think of the"unwanted equine" going to slaughter. What if it is YOUR ,young, broke, sound, reg., athletic horse that you can't find some one to buy it and there is a drought?????? Send him/her to slaughter..Could you do it?

If I couldn't feed it (hay alternatives such as Alfalfa cubes, Alfalfa Pellets &sugar beet pulp are always available... though expensive..), couldn't give it away, and was facing the prospect of looking out my window and seeing my horses slowly dying by starvation... I'd get my large-game hunter Neighbor to put it down very quickly...

This is because it's illegal for the Amish slaughter house that I take my goats/cattle too - to do the same service for a horse.  Hate to say it - my dogs/cats are probably already consuming horse meat and/or horse fat in the commercial dog/cat food they eat. I have no problem with this - as long AS the horses do not suffer through thousands of miles of transport, no food/water, and standing in crowded paddocks for DAYS prior to being slaughtered...
