Re: [RC] was slaughter update. - Lif Strand

Quoted from Spottedracer@xxxxxx's message at 05:49 AM 8/14/2007:
But what do you do when the area Zoos, wildlife agencies, handicapped riding non-profits, state non-profit rescues & university equestrian teams - are full and cannot accept anymore horses? And you can't even get a $20 bid on your horse at auction?

Quoted from Rebecca Fabiszak's message at 08:36 AM 8/14/2007:
This is why there needs to be a plant in every state so that the travel to the plant is relatively short.

My late husband and I made promises to our endurance horses and our broodmares: In return for working for us, they got homes for life - "for better or for worse". The whole notion of getting rid of animals because they're too old (and therefore "useless") is disgusting to me. This is not to say that rehoming to a good home is not something to consider - but sending an animal off to an unknown future is not acceptable to me.

I say don't even get a horse if you aren't willing to be responsible for it for it's whole life, not just the part you want to *use up*.
