RE: [RC] Soaking Hay - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Angie...you have weird horses.   My ponies go thru salt on a normal basis...I think.  But they inhale the minerals.  I don't mean the ones that are 99.9% salt either.  These are the soft mineral blocks, and are all minerals.  They drink TONS of water, but of course I have to water them totally out of a trough, no natural water.  And I am watering 7 of them.

PS.  I need to elytes the guys while riding in this heat.  It is way too hot/humid not too.

This is something I can't figure out. I don't remember the last time I bought a salt block. I have 4 horses in the humidity. There's a salt block that's probably at least 2 years old that's about 3/4 gone. I don't electrolyte at home. My guys are drinking well. Had to double up on the water buckets today. Yesterday is the first time I've seen them drink it all and need more. I never see them "hit the salt block" after a long ride. I've tried putting loose salt out for them and they never seem to give it a second glance. Meanwhile my dog wants to lick the salt off my whole arm!
