[RC] re: lack of interest in salt blocks - Mary Howell

HI Angie - I'm glad you spoke up! I was getting worried cause a 40 lb block
lasts the better part of 6 months at my place (I only have 2 horses though).
Even with the 104 record we hit here in Richmond yesterday they are drinking
and licking about the same.

I have noticed when conditioning an unfit horse that they hit the salt block
a lot more after a workout than my very fit main endurance horse (of course,
he typically sweats less too).

I have good pasture this summer (no drought here!) and the grass, etc. in a
typical pasture contains natural electrolytes. Also, my guys just love to
nibble the grass along the edge of my gravel drive...maybe there's some
minerals leaching out of them into the grass?
