Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Long Time, No Post--ARTHRITIS - Patty P

Okay, Glucosamine has never helped me. That is why I wondered what this drug was. I have had no luck with any of the over the counter natural remedies, which is why I am somewhat skeptical that it helps horses....but so many people claims it really does help. I wonder why they don't make it for people.

adequan is an injectible that stimulates the joints to have more of their own hatural fluids. I'm sure one fo the vets will step in here and explain it better.

It's not a narcotic, analgesic or anyting like that. Just a little boost to the body of fluids they already have.  It's like taking glucosamine.. but better. wish they had it for people.

I use Ichon on my 20YO campaigner. Gives him back that spring in his step!

What is Adequan? Is it an analgesic, narcotic?

Having more than a few arthritic and ancient horses, I find that Adequan is the best.  The real Adequan works better than any of the generics, if you can afford the $50 or so a month, after the inital dosage.  It works on German Shepheds too......mb

I have a 27 year old Egyptian Arab who has a few endurance miles and was my first mount for this sport.  Imperial Nafal is feeling his age--very stiff in the hind end and occasionally has some difficulty rising from lying down after a roll.  Hind end issues appear to be arthritic in nature.

I would like to help the poor fellow out.

Can anyone tell me how well MSM works, or is there another supplement that helps ease older horses along?  Would appreciate experience with various brands of stuff (via e-mail.)  Nafal still has a willing head and heart; I would like to be able to help him feel better and even go for some easy walks along the trails with him in his retirement from a career as my Limited Distance mount.  As recently as 5 years ago he was somewhat competitive in races... then I got busy with "real life" (grad school, marriage/kids, career) and haven't had a chance to come up for air yet!

I appreciate any thoughts.

Thank you,
