Re: [RC] helmets - Kathy Mayeda

I agree that the Parelli's could set a lot better example about helmet usage. I myself feel more comfortable driving around without seatbelts than not wearing a helmet while riding.

However, I just spent several days at the Santa Cruz Horseman's Assocation with the Bay Area Savvy Players and had a great time doing Parelli work. Most everyone wore helmets.

I think I would get more excited about Pat Parelli riding around the arena with his toddler grand-daughter.... yep - without helmets - at the Reno Livestock Exhibition Center this last Saturday...

I dunno - I guess I am able to separate the stupid grandstanding stuff from the other stuff that's worthwhile. I enjoy the Parelli stuff even though there are some aspects of the cult that make me laugh because of people's sometimes extreme regurgitation of gospel. But even the most rabid die-hard Parelli-ites can be seen wearing helmets!

a Pat Parelli, John Lyons etc etc....they don't wear helmets.

You got Lynda Parelli jumping picnic benches without a helmet. These
people must realize the impact their example could have on people. They go
on about safety and horses and respect and and body blocks etc, then jump on
a horse with a cowboy hat or sun visor......makes no sense to me.

That yanked my chain again! Those folks (Parelli's); consistently show in
videos and photos the most unnecessary; stupid and downright dangerous stuff
I have ever seen with horses; irregardless of not wearing helmets; which
they DON'T encourage, from what I have seen. Photos of jumping with no
helmet; standing on horses; no helmet riding ;a horse right up to the back
of a trailer (rider's neck at level of trailer roof). If you can stand to
watch the whole seven games video without falling asleep; and get to the end
of a clinic with a ton of folks milling around lunging; riding with no
saddle or headgear, or standing on horses at liberty...watch for the guy at
the end who FALLS OFF HIS HORSE!

I am not saying there cannot be valuable lessons to be learned by some of
their methods...but the stories about too many horses crowded into clinics
and horses and riders hurt; plus the sheer stupidity I have seen in the
videos and photos....AND the multitude of so-called Parelli trained horses
that I have seen with huge holes in their training and dangerous behaviors;
all add up to me never wanting to endorse anything they sell or do......
