It was talked about sometime back. Basically the race is over after the first so many, say 10 horses finish - or some set time, say 1 hour after the first horse finishes. At that point the vet checks all close and the horses that are on the trail come on in. It may be that only 10 horses finish the whole course. Sort of like NASCAR - it's over when the winner crosses the finish line.
