[RC] OT: Racing Training HR - April

Ok, this is totally off topic for ENDURANCE training. At least for my endurance training. But something I read on another forum piqued my curiosity. For race training (thoroughbred or standardbred), do trainers routinely work their horses at heart rates above 200 and even up to 250 bpm? I'm not familiar with training racing horses. That just sounds really high to me. I've seen around 205 for my horse when I'm letting him run full out up a steep incline, but I don't do that often and not for long periods of time. But then again, I'm training to finish a 50 mile endurance ride in varied terrain, not win a flat track race.

Thanks for the education.
