Re: [RC] Gaited 1/2 Arabs - Sharon LevasseurAs far as my research has ever shown, there's no gait gene, let alone one that passes only through one side. It's based on conformation and muscling. My Arab x Rocky Mountain Horse foxtrots, but only because he's BUILT for it and because after I bought him at 6yo I walked walked walked him as fast as he would go until his "four beat muscles" and muscle memory were built up. Then he developed a foxwalk (slower than foxtrot) and foxtrot. He does not foxtrot in the field for more than a few strides, but he will do it under saddle. Most of the time we choose to do a hard trot though. Half-gaited horses are a crapshoot. You're just as likely to get something that isn't built for ANY intermediate saddle gait as you are to get something that do any number of intermediate gaits (one or more than one)! Gaited horse owners are frequently heard to say "if you want gaited, buy gaited, don't breed hoping for gaited." -Sharon L. in Maine www.zegifts.com Quoting Jody Rogers-Buttram <dragnin100@xxxxxxxxx>: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
