Pretty shrewd observations, Kat.  I would think one of the feelings most 
prominent about living as it was 200 years ago would be fear.  Fear of being 
attacked, fear of not finding water, fear of not having enough to eat, fear 
of being lost, fear of being injured or ill and knowing there was no medical 
help (such as it was then, anyway.)  I have loved riding along a pioneer 
trail and trying to feel what it would be like to have been among the early 
travelers there, but it just isn't the same, because I don't have that fear.
