Re: [RC] Bucking rolls on endurance saddle - Jennifer Fleet

Are bucking rolls similar to poleys on an Aussie saddle (the things that prevent you from pitching forward over the side of your horse when he does the famous 360 spin?)

If so, can they be attached to a Desoto saddle? I LOVE every single thing about my wonderful gelding, EXCEPT that particular maneuver! I find myself getting more and more inhibited about riding at speed because I never know when a deer, wild pig, armadillo, whatever is going to pop out and spook him (we recently moved to FL and all this wildlife on the trails is proving to be an issue!). And then the duck and spin happens. I sure would like something in front of my thighs to keep me with my horse...I've only come off once in the five years I've had him..but i'm not getting any younger and my reaction time is no doubt getting slower. LOL.

Would adding bucking rolls help this situation? If so, where can I get the darned things?!

Thanks. I didn't know they could be added on.

I have a Specialized saddle as well (cutback model), and abrupt stops are a problem with it. I might give Dave a call. :)

Bucking rolls are exactly what you said, something that can be added to a "slick fork" saddle without swells. Just a soft, leather covered, shaped, stuffed piece for each side that can be fastened with a screw or two, sometimes laced through the forks.

Sorry to be ignorant, but what are bucking rolls? The closest I can remember were bucking swells on a western saddle, but they were part of the tree design, not something that could be added on later.
