[RC] how did I find my horse. - mrsd

I ride
Was looking for a horse after the tevis in 1990. Friend had found a 5 YO
gelding in Sacramento. Went to look at him at a stable and found him in a 12 X
12 eating 40 lbs of alfalfa cubes a day. Didn't seem to have any withers but
thought it would have something to do with about 200 lbs. of fat that he had.
He seemed to be sound and the stable owner said that the owner had tried to
ride him in an upside down curb. Didn't work too well. Picked him up for
$750, took him home
to his new diet. Grass Hay. Had a trainer work with him for 30 days and he
thought he would make a great stock horse. He said he could slide forever. I
said don't do that..

After two years of riding slowly behind my wife's gelding to avoid getting
dumped all of the time . He can really spook..Took him to his first ride at
age of 7. Did well. Next ride was the Pacific CW Championship 100. He
finished
easily in last place. I was sick for a year so didn't ride. Wife rode him on
the Derby Ditch 50.

He is now 22 and has completed over 3000 miles. This includes 11 100 milers
with 4 of them being the Tevis in a row. Also was first MW in 99 at 100 mile
N.C. He is still sound and goes well as long as he is ridden at least 3 days a
week.
