[RC] Barbaro - the book - Julie Pearsall

.....an opinion only...

I borrowed the book from my library - glad I didn't buy it.  It wasn't much more than a series of magazine/news articles chronicling the life and death of a great racehorse.  At the beginning of the book, the author quotes Harper Lee and compares the death of Barbaro to the sin of killing a mocking bird.  In the final paragraph of the book, the author reminds us of the sin of killing a hummingbird.  Please....  if you're going to quote classic liturature, do it accurately!

If I were a Thoroughbred lover, I might buy it.  I guess I'm spoiled by the work Laura Hillenbrand put into writing Seabiscuit.  My gut reaction is that these authors are cashing in on a wave of morbid public curiosity.  Maybe not their intention, but it just didn't feel like a heartfelt effort.

Just my opinion!
Julie
