Brands are pretty much obsolete in the East. You very seldom see a 
brand. We used ear notches when I was a kid on our ranch in Kentucky to 
mark the cattle. I can tell you, however, in Florida you will fly 
through the ag stop if your horse is chipped and you have the chip ID on 
your paperwork. You will still be able to get through without it but it 
will take longer.
