In response to:"brand must be registered with the state's dept. of 
agriculture.  A picture of the brand must be drawn and specified 
where the person wants to locate it."

In TX - brands are registered by county - not state - so there 
could be a number of brands that are all the same in TX.  there's 
also no way to look them up but to go to the county courthouse and 
page through the book.

it doesn't sound like a good system to me but that's what it is.
