Re: [RC] non USA endurance riders and fuel - Truman Prevatt

I'm not sure she meant it the way it came across. I suspect we drive a heck of a lot more in our pursuit of endurance rides than Europeans. Europe is a lot smaller than the US. For example, France is approximately 213,000 sq miles. Texas is 262,000. The four corner states (CO, UT, NM and AZ) are 419,000 square miles. It takes a very long time driving from the Eastern CO border to the Western Utah border - a very long time. As a lawyer friend of mine told me some years back when my girlfriend and I were going on a road trip that included driving across Texas. You better hurry or you'll be married before you get across ;-) . We just bloody drive a lot farther. Fuel cost have always been a lot more in Europe. I've regularly traveled to Europe over the past 30 years - it's always been two to three times as expensive. One reason is it is very heavily taxed.

One big reason they use small trailer or horse vans is the sized of the roads. Try getting a 4 horse Sundowner with a 12 foot living quarter pulled by a crew cab dully through Harrogate, England.

I'm sure our Ridecamp members from other countries really liked that
statement. :-( Remember, we are a WORLDWIDE E-List. I'd be curious to
hear what riders from other countries do to get to rides. I understand much
smaller, fuel saving rigs are common. Brenderup trailers pulled by smaller
vehicles are often mentioned. I'd like to hear more about how far they
travel to rides on average, what type of camping facilities do they use.
Tent? Sleep in vehicle? Do some have LQ trailers? How many rides do they
have to choose from? Maybe we can get some hints on how to save on fuel
expenses from those who DO have higher prices than we do.
