Patty, I'm sorry for your illness. Many of us in endurance have some kind of physical limitations and this sport keeps us going. I hate these prices as much as anyone and it is severely limiting my travels. Heck, I'm in the process of a divorce and living on half the income I used to have. My only vehicle right now is my V-10 dodge truck. I can't afford to get a little commuter vehicle right now. If I didn't work from home, I'd be in a world of hurt.

But please realize this email has been going round for YEARS. It's nothing new. It's just another urban myth that refuses to die.  We'd be better off sharing rides with friends to save gas, or encouraging, helping or even managing rides so there will be some closer to home base for people. I've found out with the big truck that if I just lower my speed 5 to 10 mph, I save gas. I leave a little earlier and try not to get in a hurry. I save money on other areas of my life where I can, travel by vehicle only when I really have to, combine trips so I get all my errands done, plan a route where I'm not backtracking, etc.

We have lots of options available to us, but this email isn't real, darlin, it never was.
