RE: [RC] American River 70 tidbit - sherman


In my case and at least one other horse, we did electrolyte lightly. I
had never used electrolytes on this horse before, and was afraid of
overdoing it. I think Sonny may have needed more, especially since he
was not acclimated to the heat. We had been having cool weather until a
couple of days before the ride. Then temps soared on ride day.

Interesting. The other day I was telling Danny Herlong that the new
"fad"
is not to electrolyte, that supposedly it really doesn't help. He said,
"When's the last time  you saw a horse thump?" I said, "I don't know,
long time". He said, "Before we started giving electrolytes you saw
horses thumping right and left all the time!"

Could this be the result of folks giving up electrolyting?
