Re: [RC] tent camping - Karen LyndI have a little three man Eureka dome tent (fits two comfortably) - I wish it was a little bigger. It is a tough little tent. We were in a terrible wind and rain storm one day when we were camping on the Outer Banks in North Carolina - right near the ocean. Only 2 tents in the campground were not blown down and/or shredded. They were both the same tent - mine and someone else's that was the exact same model. We also stayed pretty dry. My two rat study tells me that Eureka makes a good, strong tent.

In Minnesota this tent is known as the Boundary Waters tent, as it's the tent the outfitters send out with groups and paddlers who go into the BWCA. The tent pads in the BWCA are actually shaped for this tent. It's an A frame tent, with metal poles, but you can set the tent up in rain, and the tent part stays dry; as you can set up the rainfly first and unroll the tent underneath. Takes about 10 - 15 minutes for two people to set up when you get good at it. Also has a vestibule to add which I love for wet boots & clothing. Replacement parts available in places like Campmor. My husband has winter camped in this tent for years. No super heavy snows, but it's handed couple inchers. Our family tent is the Eureka Equinox 6. It's a dome, with low rainfly on the non windowed sides. We've used this tent for at least nine years camping & horse camping. It's held up well, zippers all still work. We also have the vestibule for this tent. Friends also have the Cabela's Alaskan guide tent. Similar to the Equinox 6, but I think the rain fly on this one is even lower. They don't camp as much as we do, but their tents have still gotten a work out. Check out the product reviews. DON'T get the Eureka Tetragon. I've seen this one blow flat in the wind. Get yourself some Thermarest camping pads, much more versatile than the blow up mattress, and if it gets a hole in it, it's easily patchable.
