Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Safety issues with spot-on type bug control? - Dawn Carrie

Louise, do you use an entire tube per horse, or only part of one?  We get lots of ticks on our horses, especially my bay horse, with all the riding in the Forest we do.  He only got them in his ears once, but gets them everywhere else, including on his sheath, anus, insides of his thighs, chest, you name it!  I've picked as many as 21 embedded ones off him before, poor boy.  They love him.  :-/

Hi Sharon,
I use Equi-spot a lot this time of the year.  It is a lifesaver for tick problems, esp in the ears and under the legs.  I am acutely  aware it is a very concentrated insecticide and  wear gloves when applying and wash my hands after use.  I put it in everyone's ears, behind the girth, and under the back legs, and I only have to apply it once every 10 days.  BUT, I don't put it on foals, or preg mares, or mares we are getting ready to breed.

In the late summer it works pretty well to keep bot flies off as well.
Hope this helps some.
