RE: [RC] euthanization - heidi

Geez, I'm once again grateful to live where I live!  My typical hay bill is less than $50 per horse per month.  Likewise, the farrier bill is excessive here, even for the horses that live in confinement (our stallions)--in our broodband, we average about 4-5 trims per year in the whole group, because they live in a fairly natural setting.  If I received the following amounts to care for the number of horses that I presently care for, I could soon retire and go to the Bahamas!

I also question the charge for grain--unless the horse is a geriatric and in need of some sort of senior supplement or soakable feeds in place of hay, feeding a horse 4+ bags of grain per month is not only extravagant but is not conducive to his good health.
Heidi

Just FYI - here is the formula we use for determining the costs per year:

1-    $150.00 per month for pasture/hay/grass/water/blankets/buckets/shampoo/flyspray/ etc. - basically "board"
2-    $150.00 per year for farrier care (no shoes)
3-    $60.00 per month for 2 x day grain
4-    $75.00 -per year for vaccinations
5-    $40.00 per year for worming
6-    $200.00 per year for dental care
