[RC] Raffles breeding/feet - heidi larson

I agree with you Heidi, our guy has 8 crosses to Raffles
and although he was "caged" for most of his 19 years and
had horrible feet when we got him (thrush & frogs went
sideways from pacing for nearly 10 years in a stall) he's
got nice hoof walls now, size 0-1 feet and he's 13.3,
cupped soles and our farrier is very happy with how quickly
his feet turned around considering all his neglect.

Gee, that sure hasn't been my experience.  I don't have all
thatmuch *Raffles breeding in my own horses, but in general
have seen good to outstanding feet as the norm on most of
the Skowronek-bred horses, including most of the
*Raffles-bred ones.  I have more Skowronek through *Raseyn
in my program, and have always felt that that was where I
got nice round feet proportionate to the body size, with
nice thick regular hoof walls.  If I think a family is a
bit lacking in that department, that tends to be the
direction I go in the next generation to improve feet.

to farriers that shoe alot of Arabians, you’ll hear
them cuss the Raffles get for really bad feet.  They say he
had bad feet and passed it on.
