Bafford said when he retired Silver Charm - I think the last stallion to 
run as a five year old- that older stallions don't do well. They get too 
muscle bound and actually lose speed. I don't know if that is true or 
not - but all the horses that have run much past their 4 yo year have 
been geldings. Of course Cigar was retired to breed after his first lost 
- but shot blanks and is now has a paddock next door to John Henry at 
the KY horse park.
