Personally, when riding, I'd FAR rather untack at the vetting area and tack back up again than walk half a mile to my trailer at the other end of camp, then back again to vet, and back to the trailer again.  Takes FAR less time and energy to untack right there, get it done, and then slip the saddle back on and just girth up enough that it doesn't fall off on the trek to the trailer.  And besides, I'm a wimp.

Why does the vet want tack off at the finish? To give a good check of the
horse's back, I demand that the rule be nationwide. Who's out there
looking out for the rights of the horse's back? Where's our back welfare
committee on this? >G<
