[RC] Feed and stuff - Juli Bechard

I just wanted to say thank you for everyone who chimed in on my baby horse eating habits.  And to let you know what the final decisions that were made are.

Merlin is getting a different bucket, one of those soft flat things.  Since he leaves the same amount of feed regardless of what we feed him, it was suggested that maybe he was bumping his nose on his bucket, or something else was bugging him about it.

I am reducing the amount of grain he gets, and adding a timothy/alfalfa mix hay to his diet.  I hope everyone knows what they are talking about there, because my checkbook tried to throttle me on the way out of the feed store yesterday. *grin* It was NOT happy about having to give up a $40 check for two bales of hay.  I will leave him in his stall for about 2-3 hours every night so he can actually eat that hay, as opposed to Alpine, who would just run Merlin off the hay and keep it all for himself.  Then I wouldn’t be able to ride Alpine since alfalfa makes him insane.  Merlin (and Alpine for that matter) will continue to get free choice coastal Bermuda hay.

Now, I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s a beautiful day, and I am going riding.  I think my 6 mile trail is calling my name….
