Re: [RC] [RC] risks - Truman Prevatt

Nik,

You've done your duty as an MD. I drive mine crazy. I just say, Doc, say want you want to say - but then tell me how I go about doing what I want to do ;-) . He wasn't happy I climbed back on a horse six weeks after my busted ribs. I just told him he told me they would be healed in six weeks and it has been six weeks. I did compromise and buy an eventing vest.

As Ed has pointed out - to most of us it is an addiction. As for me, I'd rather go doing what I love if the other choice is to give up what I love.

Life is full of risk. So I get a pacemaker and stop riding endurance just to get hit by a car six months later as I cross the street. I'd rather go with my boots on - thank you very much.

Nik, don't feel bad - it's not your fault. It's difficult to deal with addictions.

Truman

accepted .I am just a small town interventional cardiologist practising in Kuala Lumpur and just fairly concerned if my 'friends ' in the endurance community in USA with pacemakers continue to ride endurance .Dressage ,table tennis or swimming or gym work would be a thousand time safer !

I was referring to the many different reasons some Docs tell folks they can't ride, including hip and knee replacements, back surgery, and other medical conditions. There are no certainties, no matter how many precautions we take. Might as well consider the risks we are willing work around and do what we enjoy while we can. Life's too short at best.
There are many ways for things to go wrong, riding or not. There ain't no guarantees, even with best of health and fitness and preperation.
