[RC] Standing Canter - Nik Isahak Abdullah

Someone last week posted a question on whether at the trot majority sit ,post etc etc .As an extrapolation of the question ,what do majority do when cantering ? I know that Donna Snyder Smith in her much celebrated 'endurance bible' recommended that one sit and 'flow' with the horse momentum when cantering but at the present speed at which international endurance rides are lost and won where cantering seem to be the predominant gait ,that would be a lot of pressure on the riders and the horses spines .Any comment on these ?
In the last Asian Games 120 km ride the subsequent winner [ was it Sheikh Hamdan ?] literally 'stand' all the way on the stirrups .The average speed was beyond 21 kph if I am not mistaken .
