[RC] pinworm problems - Nancy MittsHas anyone here had a problem with pinworms (in their horse)? Most of our horses are in separate fields, but they're all on the same deworming program. Only one horse is having this problem, Since this is the one I ride, I figure she picked some up somewhere we rode that the other horses haven't been exposed to. Ivermectin doesn't seem to work, doesn't slow them down for even 1 day.I tried pyrantel pamoate, and that works for 3 weeks. After 3 cycles of this I stopped and she had relief for 6 weeks. I realize she is reinfecting herself, but moving her to another field and leaving hers empty is not an option. I can't find a whole lot of detailed info on pinworms except that they are mainly considered a nuisance. If I put her on a daily wormer for 6 months (since their life cycle is 5 months) does anybody have a clue how long the eggs would remain viable in her pasture? Or would it do just as much good to use the oral every 3 weeks? Some combination of the above? And, yes it is pinworms, not an allergy itch. I see them & their yellow gunk when she is rubbing.
