[RC] Hoof toughening - Mike Sherrell

I was told that iodine applied to the sole will toughen hooves. Then I was
told that Betadine would do it. A couple of weeks ago my vet said Betadine
with sugar added was even better. Does anyone have any views on this?

My objective is to make my horse less ouchy and less hurtable, less subject
to stonebruises, on sharp gravel like reailroad bed gravel.

Whichever concoction is best, when should it be applied -- the night before?
just before the ride? Daily?
