I was told that iodine applied to the sole will toughen hooves. Then I was

My objective is to make my horse less ouchy and less hurtable, less subject
to stonebruises, on sharp gravel like reailroad bed gravel.

Whichever concoction is best, when should it be applied -- the night before?
just before the ride? Daily?

Hi Mike, I suggest you join the barefoothorse list on Yahoo...

with a proper barefoot trim, and pasture set up with gravel or pea rock, you will find that your horse will toughen his feet without the other stuff....

this is a good site to get you started...
