I've only had one instance of my Epics rubbing and it was my fault. I didn't clean them from the last time I used them and there was a bit of sand embedded in the material.  Just that small portion of debris caused a dime sized rub in Doimas' coronary band.

After riding, wash the boots to remove all sand, etc. If no water is available (or limited), use a stiff brush.
