[RC] [RC] Does size matter? (re: cannon bones) - Mary Krauss - Sherman

Hi Mary,

From Nancy Loving's "Go the Distance"

"The muscles work like levers and pulleys, with the greatest mechanical efficiency gained by a long forearm and a relatively short cannon bone. This combination allows a horse to have a longer stride reach.  Too long a cannon increases the stretch and strain on the superficial flexor tendons and on the suspensory ligaments."

Hope that helps!
