RE: [RC] Pres Cup timing system? - Steph Teeter

One of the horses was munching the grass while waiting to see the vet, and a
steward came over and said 'I need to warn you that the grass was recently
painted' It was very green :)

Regarding the timing system, it is fairly common now at the championship
level rides over-seas. Electronic card reading for in/out gates (but the
rider cards are handed to officials for the actual reading - the riders
don't do their own 'swiping' , pulses displayed on a screen at the end of
the lane (to avoid any possibilities of innaccurate readings, lack of fair
play, etc).

No kidding, my eyes bugged out at the trot-out lanes with the lush grass and
bright white dividers. Wowsa. It's like an olympic size lap pool with
grass
instead of water!! $$$

Hey, Steph - when you get a chance can you explain how the timing works
at the President's Cup? From the pictures it seems like a fairly high
tech system. Does a rider carry a "swipe card" with him, to swipe in at
the in/out gates and the pulse gate? Do they cross a pulse line to get
their time? And what kind of back-up do they have, if all the fancy
gadgets die?

Intriguing to see how things work in other parts of the world, where
they are able to spend lots of money on their rides!
