I have a sidepull and really love it.  I never had any mouth or bit issues with my endurance horse, other than he was unable to eat or drink with a bit in his mouth.  So this was a necessity so that he could eat and drink during a ride.  I did have the same issue, rubs over the nose.  I use a double rope side pull.  I wove some soft string over the double ropes, but that wasn't enough to stop the rubs, so I just put a fleece cover over it and that worked. 

 

My biggest issue with the sidepulls is there quality.  I am a leather fan, no biothane here, but they are all made of low quality, stiff leather. Does anyone know of a place that custom makes leather sidepulls?  I have a design and would prefer a bosal noseband to the double rope.

But, a Sidepull is much simpler. The only issues I've ever had with it
were rubbing on the nose. I haven't done endurance, but did gallop out
alot this summer with my cross country trainer in it and had no trouble.
The horse rated as easily in that as his happy mouth french link. (He's
really easy to rate!)
