Re: [RC] Slow walking horse - Karen Sullivan----- Original Message ----- From: "Kristi Schaaf" <iluvdez@xxxxxxxxx> I'm finally hoping to start my 8 yoa Arab in distance this year, after a few years of getting sidetracked. He's the second horse I've started and I will say that I miss my first horse's naturally fast walk!!! This guy walks so sloowwwww. That said, he could care less if horses leave him, which I see as 'a good thing'. *I haven't been able to make any definite conclusions about this, unfortunately. Can't isolate any particular conformation type either I have seen unfit. 3-4 year olds come out saddle broke and just outwalking bigger and older horses. Our 15.1 Arab had the pokiest walk I had ever ridden when she was first under saddle; just despaired and hated it. After a couple years under saddle she could keep up with just about any walk. We had a totally bottom of the pecking order Arab who developed a walk that would put her out in front of any horse.....why? She was only 14h My longest legged horse is one of my slowest walkers....she just doesn't really care if she drags behind.... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
