Re: [RC] Electrolyte Formulas - Sharon Levasseur

OK I think that one's out of the running (Finish Line's Apple-A-Day), I called
to get more detailed info on the ingredients and they said it has sodium
bicarbonate in it. I had JUST read Gayle Ecker's writeup at
http://www.octra.on.ca/articles/Dehydration.php where she said don't use
anything with sodium bicarbonate. "5. For endurance horses, do not use an
electrolyte supplement containing bicarbonate. Generally, due to the sweat
loss, the horse is already alkalotic, and the bicarbonate would increase this."

Is this information correct? If so, I'll just have to wait and buy somewhere
else.

I could still use that evaluation writeup though, if anyone knows where it is!

Thanks,

I misspoke... I meant LyteNow, not PerformN' Win.

Never had metabolic problems or thumps, and always had good recoveries, but:
Limited Success = sometimes he drank really well, sometimes not well.
No Success = never drank well, but did drink SOME.

I'm asking this today because I'm placing an order with sstack.com and I'm
trying to get to $50. I need e-lytes but they only have three kinds. One of
them is this: http://www.finishlinehorse.com/product/apple-a-day.asp Is this
any good??

Thanks,

Quoting rdcarrie@xxxxxxx:

What do you mean by "limited success" and "no success?" Did your horse get
into metabolic problems, fail to drink, or what? We use EnduraMax with
good
results (horses drink well, no metabolic problems, no "thumps," good
recoveries, etc. Have also used Enduralytes with good results.

Subject: [RC] Electrolyte Formulas

I know I once read a description of how to evaluate whether certain
electrolytes
are appropriate for endurance, but I have no idea where it is. Can anyone
point
me in the right direction?

I'm not talking about the chart Karen developed... I'm not at that stage
yet...
I need to find out what percentages would be best. Once I know that I'll
use
her chart.

I've used EnduraMax before with limited success, and Perform N' Win with NO
success.

Thanks,
-Sharon L.
