Re: [RC] Eventing vest info wanted - Lysane Cree

Hi,

I have been using an eventing vest since a riding accident two years ago. Like most equipment and helmets, there is a disclaimer and the vest doesn't protect you from every type of injury imaginable. But the vest does help absorb impact if you do fall off.
Certainly, it is like the first time you put on a helmet. It might feel wierd and awkward and take some getting used to. But just like a helmet, you do get used to it and forget about even having it on after awhile.

I have used the Tipperary eventing vest and the Airowear west. Personally I like the Airowear vest because it has a zipper up the front and it seems like you can get a better closer fit with it. The Tipperary I had just had pieces of velcro that go around the middle, and sometimes was a little harder to fit if I was wearing a thicker shirt. Tipperary does have different vest styles though so they are still worth checking out.
I don't find that I am too hot with it on in the summer, but I wear a shirt that breathes well and doesn't absorb sweat. Cotton sucks because even when I don't feel hot, I do sweat under the vest and then the cotton stays all damp and yucky. Those microfiber exercise shirts are really good.

Hope that helps,

Lysane

Hi, Mary,

I bought one after a six busted bone fall, but I've never used it because it makes me feel so constrained, I feel like I'm safer without it.

I guess I'd recommend trying it out before buying.  The other thing is that my orthopedist didn't think it would help.  Might try a rodeo vest instead, they seem to have better neck protection.

I'm recovering from a nasty fall, 8 busted bones, and am considering an eventing vest.  Does anybody out there use them, any suggestions, brand/type likes and dislikes?  Happy trails to all in 2007.
