If they are ridden more then now and then, they need some kind of added nutrition such as grain or ??If they work hard or your area has some feed deficiencies, or they don't seem to be doing just right, they may need something to balance the diet. In this case the best thing you can do is get an analysis of everything the horse is eating. Then add what is needed, not just throw things in because it sounds good.
