Re: [RC] water softeners safe for horses - Barbara McCrary

I can't possibly imagine why it wouldn't be safe for horses...we drink it all the time and have done so for over 50 years.  When we go on rides, we fill our water tank in the trailer with soft water and the horses have drunk it then.  All a water softener does is substitute calcium ions (in our water) with salt ions, or at least that is the way it has been described to us.  Whatever, I think after 50+ years, we would suffer some damage to ourselves if there was any damage to be done.

Subject: [RC] water softeners safe for horses

Does anyone know if water treated with a standard water softener is safe for horses?  We have very hard water and I may have to install a water softener to treat the water in the barn to avoid endless plumbing problems.
