Mine is not that noisey.  As dodge carries it and installed it, it is included with the new truck warrantee.

I have occasionally seen road signs that say "No Jake Brakes". Could someone please explain why?
Strictly speaking a Jake Brake (http://www.jakebrake.com/) is made by Jacobs Vehicle Sytems and only found on semi's.  In this application they change valve timing so that the engine acts like an air compressor.  The energy needed to do this slows the truck and trailer.
