[RC] Angst, OCD and Restarting - L gin

"Angst" got me riding that day. Humph... Rascal picked up in the arena where we left off! Started some groundwork again with the other two, vacation after move is over. "Therapy" it is.
Saturday got the siding on 3 stalls on the first barn section !. Weather has been good except for one really cold spell. Horses would like shelter, beyond blankets for the cold rains we get in winter.
Today I was to go to the Home depot and get wood for the doors and latches and hinges and stain .Staining it tomorrow, so we can extend the fence so the horses can use it , hopefully by Christmas!
I took a "wrong turn" and noticed a Purina symbol , on what I thought was just a garden center-- so I did a U-ee, and went in. I was looking to see what feed they carried and was "obsessively" reading labels , getting upside down and kneeling in front of bags, because I had just opened the Triple Crown Senior and poured it into the barrel the day before and swear they must have drained the Molasses barrel on it, and seemed stickier than usual... It raised some concerns as he is having some foot/lameness issues and even though he lost a bit of weight and is ribby, his neck seems to be getting cresty, I am thinking of ditching it and maybe just adding oats and alphalfa pellets with his oil and beet pulp. (need to research Susan Garlingtons site).

Weeelll, the store owner asked if he could help me, so I asked some questions then, asked if he knew any trail riders around, and did he know anything about local trails........Well that started the ball rolling. Not only did he know, he was the president of the saddle club nearby where there is a trail system at Berry college , that you can park at and ride. (did mention bicycles scared some horses sometimes. I said my horse used to chase my son on bicycles.)
I said my horse and I had been pretty much sidelined for 2 years , and needed to get in shape and He needed to ride around other horses as we always rode alone , barring about 6 times . He told me lots of 'umm had trail rides , almost any weekend, again telling me about some other trails. I also wanted to ride with others to 'scope out the trails" before I ventured out alone, so I knew what I was in for.
"Do you walk on these trail rides?" I queried. "Yes" , he said. "JUST walk? , Does anyone TROT sometimes?" , I asked hopefully....(thinking back of the CTR clinic where they wanted us to mostly walk the 11 miles, Rascal jigged 10 of the 11.) Yeah, we mostly ride Quarter horses. Weeeelll, sometimes a few who ride Racking horses will move on out when it opens up some. " "Well,... my horse needs some slow work....." I conceded... (this may not work for long I thought, but we aren't ready to contact the REAL endurance riders around till we get back in shape a bit first......Plan is forming...........)
I mentioned where I lived and that our land touched the National forest in the back. He said, "Yeah we've pulled in there with a couple rigs and rode that trail back to Hwy. 100, but it'll take you all day to ride that trail" --"REALLY?!! ," I said enthusiastically..." How long is that section?" "Fourteen miles" , he said." All day ?" I said ." Well yeah, if ya ride there and back, that's 28 miles." "That'da be a good training ride for a 50 I said....."
He gave me the time of saddle club meeting and how to get a permit to ride on the college trails. And I gave him info to contact me for trail rides.
I got back in my truck and said ---YESSS!!! -- now things are moving......... Got to get the hitch and controller on my new truck so I can tow, even when hubby is gone.
Working on finding a good trainer for the arab, appendix-- getting ready to demo saddles to try and get a better fit for Mr. shortback, wellspring ribs, forward girthing, agile horse and his Princess and the Pea fanny rider.:0)
Course then I got home and donkey has what seems to be endema in stomach and legs.....
