[RC] Cameras - B. L. Kossowan

Sorry to wade in late on this one. I'm still four days behind reading emails,
but can't resist offering my two cents (or four bucks, including inflation).
Digital cameras despise moisture, and that includes condensation. When I was
looking for a compact camera to carry on the saddle, I purchased a waterproof
35mm (Pentax K105) that would hold up to a little rain, some sweat and the odd
bath. It cost $400 ten years ago and still works as good as new.
Olympus now makes at least three different models of waterproof digital
cameras, at prices running between $350 and $400 and there may be some bargains
on ebay.
While I can appreciate that a person would rather not depart with that kind of
money, where is the savings if, the first time you go out, you have to cross a
river and the camera gets soaked? Keeping it in a plastic bag is a bit of an
option, but will not necessarily protect the camera as well as it would like.
