RE: [RC] horse v. psych (occupations) - heidi

I've read some of the "occupations" e-mails and got to thinking.  My horse
isn't so much a luxury as she is a cost effective mental health investment.

<snip>

  Bucket is my
vacation.

Can anybody relate?

Yep.

One of the things that I get hammered on in my new career (pastor) by those higher-ups in the denomination who are the support structure for pastors is taking care of my own sense of well-being.  They are so concerned that I don't take regular "vacations"--but they are city slickers, and so have not had the experience of the change of pace that is entailed in having to go out every day and take care of critters, or the peace and mental wholeness that comes in associating with them.

Besides, they are a never-ending source both of sermon illustrations and of understanding the primal needs and instincts of their human counterparts...  Maybe I should write them off as continuing education...  <g>
